Easter Jeep Safari in Moab, Utah

You have to see it and experience it to believe it! For 10 days leading up to Easter Sunday each year, an amazing number of people from all over the world meet in Moab for the 4X4 adventure of a life time!

It’s a tradition that started in 1967 with one trail – there are now about 50 total trails in the Moab area – and this year there will be somewhere around 2000 four wheel drive rigs all the way from bone stock to built from the ground up rock crawlers enjoying a variety of trails from a “Sunday drive” to trails where the boulders are bigger than the vehicles conquering them.
One of the “musts” is booking your accommodations early! There are many who book the same rooms or camping spots from year to year. Pretty much every place is full long before the festivities start, so if you want to go, plan to book early!
Jeep Safari is run by the Red Rock Four Wheelers, the local 4X4 club, and they hold a lottery each year to determine who gets to go on which trails which days! They send out a 100 page newspaper in early January each year with the schedule of dates and trails and the number of rigs allowed on each adventure. There are deadlines to be met so you have to pay attention.

I have attended the Safari for a number of years and for “Jeepers” like me it never gets old. My 4X4 club, the Lone Peak 4 Wheelers, goes as a group to Moab 2-3 times a year including Jeep Safari, and one of our members, Marlin and Julia Sharp are official trail leaders with the Safari.
Moab has had SO MUCH snow this year – some of our club went down in late February and were unable to do any of the trails because of the amount of snow! So hopefully most or all of that will be melted by now and the Jeep Safari will go on! You just never know what kind of Spring weather you might encounter so you have to go prepared for both heat and cold!

It is great fun and is an event that has to be experienced to be believed!!
